What has been called the “Rose of the South” is now at home in Orangeburg’s Edisto Memorial Gardens.

Noisette roses are not easy to come by, but 54 varieties of the ever-blooming rose can be seen at the gardens, thanks to a joint project between the City of Orangeburg and the South Carolina Rose Society, along with the Garden Club of South Carolina.

City officials and others gathered at the Gardens Thursday afternoon for the dedication of the new Noisette Rose Garden. Forty-four varieties, including Rose Moschata and Old Blush, are included in the rose bed. Ten other varieties are on wrought iron trellises, where they will grow as large as 30 feet tall.
